THE 2nd Davao Football Association (DFA) 35 and Above Football Tournament kicks off today, Friday, at 3 p.m. at the Tionko field.
DFA men's 2nd division committee head Buboy Arrieta in an e-mailed statement to Sun.Star Davao, said the bootfest will feature four teams that will clash in a single-round robin format to determine the top two teams that will face off in the finals.
Two teams from DFA will try to defend home turf as DFA Blue will be spearheaded by former national players Hershey Salmon and Melchor Anzures along with DFA White led by veteran booters Dr. Kix Latayan and Jigger Avanceña.
DFA, however, will have its hands full against Butuan-Agusan del Norte Football Association (Banfa) led by its president and Butuan City vice mayor Lawrence Fortun and the seasoned players from General Santos City.
The participating teams will also have a fellowship night on Saturday wherein they will discuss the next host for the 35-and-above bootfest.
Arrieta added DFA will suggest that the 35-and-above bootfest will become an annual event to promote camaraderie among football veterans.
The football tournament is also organized to provide a playing outlet for veteran players in Mindanao.
