PTA Boys Jr., Rabbies FC capture futsal crowns

THE PTA Boys Jr. and Rabies FC ruled their respective divisions in the recent Kia Rio Cup 5:30 20 Davao Interclub Futsal Tournament held at the SM City Annex.

PTA Boys Jr. prevented underdog team St. Paul from pulling off a Cinderella story after beating the latter, 4-1, in the finals to clinch the boys U16 crown.

St. Paul head coach Rachelle delos Reyes, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said she only aimed for the semifinals as they were faced against powerhouse teams so reaching the finals was already a good feat.

"We lost our championship match but the players did their best despite the pressure due to lack of exposure," Delos Reyes said.

Jeffril Cabaral was hailed most valuable player (MVP) while teammate Jasper Anutan was named best goalkeeper.

PTA Boys RVA player Gregorio Zamora Jr. was the best scorer.

Maco FC salvaged the third slot after hacking out a 5-4 shootout victory over the PTA Boys RVA.

Rabies FC, meanwhile, clinched the Men's 2nd Division title by defeating the Davao Crocodile FC, 3-1, in the finals.

John Leynes of Rabies FC went home with the MVP award while teammate Lanzi Borromeo was named best goalkeeper. Jun Mapuran of Davao Crocodile FC emerged as best scorer.

Alia Orange FC settled for third place after beating SVDB FC, 5-4.

Cash prizes, trophies, and medals were given to the winners in the tournament presented by Kia Motors Philippines. It is sanctioned by the Davao Football Association. (RPSA)
