CHICAGO, USA -- FORMER Azkals coach Simon Mcmenemy is confident that the Philippine national football team will have a strong finish in the up coming Suzuki Cup.
Asean's top biennial football competition will be hosted by Thailand and Malaysia from the 24th of November to the 1st of December this year.
Mcmenemy, who guided the Azkals to a 4th place finish in 2010 in Vietnam said in his twitter message that he is supporting the team and he thinks the Azkals will face tough competition against Vietnam and probably Myanmar in their Group A bracket.
The Azkals are in Group A with Thailand, Vietnam and the winner of the qualifying competition which probably would be Myanmar.
He added that the Azkals would be pressured but they could do equal or surpassed their 2010 performance.
In spite of leading the Azkals to their best finish so far in the Suzuki Cup, he was replaced by current coach Michael Weiss when his contract expired.
After a brief stint as Azkals coach, Mcmenemy was hired to coach Indonesian Super League club Mitra Kukar where he also did not stay long.
Just recently he was appointed as the national head coach for the Soccer School Indonesia-Arsenal. The school is a project of the Indonesian FA in partnership with the Premiership side to promote football among the youth of Indonesia.
It is also Arsenal's attempt to expand their brand in Southeast Asia particularly in Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world. DP
